3 Kinds of Unbelief
Sometimes in our journey as believers, we can find unbelief rising to the surface in our mind at certain moments.
There are 3 kinds of unbelief:
Mark 9:24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
Sometimes in our journey as believers, we can find unbelief rising to the surface in our mindat certain moments.
At least, there are 3 kinds of unbelief:
First is what we call as ignorance. This one usually happens as a result of a lack of knowledge. I.e. A chirstian who does't read the bible so he doesn't know what God has done to him, what he can receive from God, his identity in Christ Jesus, and many other promises. Such circumstances can cause that person to be unable to receive the promises of God though they've been given to him, just because he doesn't have the information or the knowledge. The cure is give him the knowledge or the word of God.
Another kind of unbelief is the one caused by a wrong teaching. Now this one can be dangerous. Because a person with this unbelief has believed something which is wrong or inaccurate. This kind of unbelief usually caused by doctrines, or traditions. It is something that's been around for years in a community, family, or even church and been handed down maybe from generation to generation.
Mark 7:13 making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.”
Now doctrines and traditions are not always right but many times they are believed by a group of people as something right. Many of traditions are not in line with the word of God. This one is a little bit more difficult to handle, because usually there will be resistance from within them. Here's the illustration, as if you want to write on a whiteboard, but it turns out that the whiteboard is already full of other people's writing. You can't write anything unless you first must erase the whiteboard, and after it's clean then you can write something. Many times, this wrong teaching is already deeply rooted in somebody's mind that is difficult to remove it. The cure.....erase the wrong and get the right.
The third kind of unbelief is what is driven by what we see and hear. I.e. Someone that believes that he has received power and authority to cast out demons and heal the sick, when ministering someone on the street saw a scary manifestation of the evil spirit that he's never seen before. Or maybe he's been trying several times to minister healing but haven't seen a manifestation yet. It can cause an unbelief to arise in their mind or their heart. This one can happen anywhere anytime.
How to deal with this one? The best way is we must live ready anytime anywhere. We must live stirred up. Don't let the flesh (see, hear, taste, smell, and feel) take over the spirit. The best exercise is pray and fast regularly. Because when we pray and fast, we subdue the flesh and train our spirit. We stir up what God has already given inside us in our spirit. So that when the things happen, we are not moved by what we see or hear and we don't give the flesh a chance to rise and take control.
